  1. Magstim Super Rapid² Plus¹ Stimulator

A state-of-the-art device for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). It enables the implementation of a wide range of stimulation protocols, including all types of repetitive TMS. The system ensures precise and safe delivery of magnetic pulses, with programmable parameters in accordance with current neurophysiological and clinical research standards.

  1. Brainsight neuronavigation system (Rogue Research)

An advanced neuronavigation system that allows precise localisation and tracking of the TMS coil relative to the individual head/brain anatomy of the participant (based on a brain template or individual MRI scans). This system significantly increases stimulation accuracy, which is crucial in neuromodulation research.

  1. Stimulation coils:

a. Air Film coil – air-cooled, enabling prolonged stimulation without risk of overheating.

b. D702 coil – designed for deeper stimulation, providing a broader field of action.

c. D50 B.I. coil – intended for more focal, precise pulse application.

  1. Two universal coil stands

Stable and adjustable stands enabling precise positioning of the coils relative to the participant’s head. They allow maintenance of a constant coil position throughout the session.

  1. Dedicated TMS chair

An ergonomic chair specifically designed for TMS sessions. It ensures participant comfort and proper head stabilization, thereby increasing stimulation accuracy and reducing motion artifacts.

  1. Computer for visual stimulus presentation

A high-performance computer system synchronized with the TMS and neuronavigation systems. It enables cognitive, psychophysical, and time-sensitive experimental paradigms.

  1. Two-channel electromyograph (EMG)

Allows recording of skeletal muscle activity in response to motor cortex stimulation. It is used to determine motor thresholds and to measure motor cortex responses to repetitive TMS.

TERMS OF USE

With the exception of the electromyograph, the equipment is not mobile. It may be used during Centre for Brain Research working hours as well as in the evening hours.

The infrastructure may be operated exclusively by individuals trained in the use of the equipment and in safety procedures related to brain stimulation techniques. Operators must be capable of responding to adverse events, such as seizures, and must hold valid medical clearance confirming no contraindications to working in environments involving strong electromagnetic pulses. Both operators and participants are required to use hearing protection. Pregnant women are not permitted to operate TMS devices or remain in their immediate vicinity during pulse emission.

Use of the equipment without the involvement of Centre for Brain Research personnel is possible only if users can demonstrate verified experience (e.g., through authorship of scientific publications or certification from a project leader) in operating Magstim TMS systems, or if they complete appropriate training. Centre for Brain Research offers such training on a paid basis.
